Health promotion theory
By: Davies, Maggie; Macdowall, Wendy
Published by: Open University Press
Health promotion is far from straightforward. Unless public health practitioners explore and understand the theory underpinning health promotion, there is a real risk of, at best, establishing ineffective interventions and, at worst, antagonising and even harming the very people you are seeking to help. This book will guide you through the philosophical, methodological, theoretical, ethical and political underpinnings of health promotion to enable you to be a more effective practitioner. Although the book explores these various aspects, it is focused on assisting you in applying the ideas and concepts to practical implementation. To illustrate good practice and provide evidence of what works, examples are drawn from several countries, representing different cultural backgrounds. . Contributors: Maggie Davies, Nick Fahy, Jeff French, Mike Kelly, Jessica Kepford, Paul Lincoln, Anthony Morgan, Don Nutbeam, Jaume Ribera, Magdalene Rosenmöller, Marc Sachon, Viv Speller.

Human Resources for Health in Europe
By: Dubois, Carl-Ardy; Nolte, Ellen; McKee, Martin
Published by: Open University Press
Health service human resources are key determinants of health service performance. The human resource is the largest and most expensive input into health care, yet it can be the most challenging to develop. This book examines some of the major challenges facing health care professions in Europe and the potential responses to these challenges. The book analyses how the current regulatory processes and practices related to key aspects of the management of the health professions may facilitate or inhibit the development of effective responses to challenges facing health care systems in Europe. The authors document how health care systems in Europe are confronting existing challenges in relation to the health workforce and identify the strategies that are likely to be most effective in optimizing the management of health professionals in the future. Human Resources for Health in Europe is key reading for health policy makers and postgraduates taking courses in health services management, health policy and health economics. It is also of interest to human resource professionals. Contributors: Carl Afford, Rita Baeten, James Buchan, Anna Dixon, Carl-Ardy Dubois, Sigrún Gunnarsdóttir, Elisabeth Kachur, Karl Krajic, Suszy Lessof, Ann Mahon, Alan Maynard, Martin McKee, Ellen Nolte, Anne Marie Rafferty, Charles Shaw, Bonnie Sibbald, Ruth Young.

If Your Kid Eats This Book, Everything Will Still Be Okay
By: Zibners, Lara
Published by: Wellness Central
As an Emergency Room pediatrician, Dr. Lara Zibners has seen it all. She's cared for a portion of the 25 million children in the U.S. who are taken to the ER each year-and she knows that more than 50% of these visits may be unnecessary. IF YOUR KID EATS THIS BOOK, EVERYTHING WILL STILL BE OKAY shows parents when they may need to take action, and when they might be able to just go back to bed and call their doctor in the morning. With sections such as "In the Diaper" and "His Noggin and the Nervous System," Dr. Zibners covers every part of the body and offers sound advice (for example, did you know that oil is the best remedy for dissolving superglue between body parts?), all while maintaining a lively and often hilarious tone. To the question, "What if she chokes on her vomit?" Zibners answers, "A healthy child will not choke on her own vomit, unless she is drunk or high on Grandma's sleeping pills.". Finally, no more frantic late-night searches through the "why to buy,""how to diaper," or "what to feed him" sections found in other childcare books to find out if little Franny needs to go to the ER. This book focuses on the truly important questions, like how to keep her from electrocuting herself in the first place. Not every child has a pediatrician with specialized emergency room experience living in her home. But this book just might be the next best thing. Lara Zibners, MD , is a former Assistant Professor of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City . Currently, she divides her professional time between New York and London .

Informe sobre la salud en el mundo 2006
By: Salud, Organizacion Mundial de la
Published by: World Health Organization
